Overview (Details, Topics and Speakers):
By Hermann Brandenburg, Martin Lörsch, Judith Bauer, Bernadette Ohnesorge, Christian Grebe
The opening of quarters for inpatient care for the elderly offers two opportunities: on the one hand, the internal organization and the structure of the nursing homes can be further developed and, on the other hand, a contribution can be made to the “caring communities”. But how do the homes meet this challenge? Which concepts and experiences already exist? What are promoting and inhibiting conditions of this development? An empirical research project – Growing old well in Rhineland-Palatinate (GALINDA), which was carried out by the Nursing Faculty of the Philosophical-Theological University of Vallendar, dealt with these questions. As a result, it becomes clear that the key to change and innovation lies in the organizational culture of the institutions. To set the appropriate accents here, is the task of those responsible on site, the sponsors, but of course also politicians. An internal and external culture of support with regard to opening and de-institutionalization is required, and GALINDA can make reliable statements on this. The data is based on interviews, observations and group discussions at several locations, as well as a state-wide standardized survey in Rhineland-Palatinate.
